Coach Solitaire

COACH SOLITAIRE ( A solitaire system designed for the old Avalon Hill game, Paydirt.)

There are still a large number of gamer’s who enjoy this game as I have discovered from the various discussion boards. For years I have been using a solitaire system which uses a deck of fast action cards to call an opponents offensive or defensive calls. Up to now these cards have only been available to a few friends but at last have been made available to all Paydirt fans everywhere.

Coach Solitaire has been a regular opponent for me over the last 25 years. Over that time he has improved considerably from a very simple man indeed, to a wily old bird capable of winning any game of Paydirt.

The 100 card FAC deck calls both offence and defence plays, taking into account the yards required for first down and any strategy being used by either coach (see below).

New optional strategy rules are provided in the set which have been play tested over many years. These include time saving offence, hurry up offence, ball control offence, pass prevent defence, fake kicks and play action passes.

The old Avalon Hill wildcard rules have been revamped to produce a new “key” rule which allows each coach to specify the play he expects to see and key on it. Unlike the old wildcard system if you want to key on an off tackle run you will need to be in short yardage formation or in pass prevent to key on a medium pass. Coach Solitaire will make extensive use of the keying rules to nail you time and again on important plays.

Strategy for Coach Solitaire is determined by an easily understood chart.

Finally, a new set of play calling cards for offence, defence (including all the optional plays)and special teams is provided to make head to head play more enjoyable.
